Hanging from the Bowsprit

This is no doubt a picture that everyone who sailed on the Tabor Boy has taken. What's interesting about this in today's context is, would one be allowed to do this? No life jacket, in the middle of the north Atlantic. As a parent now, it makes me just not want to know what my kids do.
