In 1953, having learned that students could crew on weekends; I sailed aboard the yawl Tabor Boy (originally EDLU II) for my first sailing experience under Captain John Carlson. Wow! What a thrill to feel her heel and move out of Marion harbor so powerfully and silently under sail. I passed the crew's test of my mettle by withstanding the supposed seasickness inducing experience of watching the gimbaled table sit almost motionless while the vessel rolled and the salty dogs telling stories about swallowing a piece of liver on a string, etc....

Great picture. Love the "Cap" deck chair. Bet Jim Geil would like one of those! ;-)

Bruce, is this you? This is such a classic picture. This guy looks like a young Olin Stephens. What was the TB Yawl like? I've only seen the ship model in the academic center and maybe a painting. Do you have any other pictures of her?
