Sailing with Shipmates

One of the lasting effects of Tabor Boy experience is the strong friendships that shipmates establish. Rob Atkinson (Engineer '79) and I missed each other by a year at Tabor but met through the Tabor Boy Project and mutual friends/shipmates Jamie Hutton (XO '79) and Bob Glover (Navigator '78). Coincidentally Rob grew up in Mattapoisett and around the corner from where my family lives today.

On Saturday Rob and his son Sam invited me and my kids Luke (6) and Joy (4) for a great morning of sailing. All of you can appreciate how great it can be sailing in perfect Buzzards Bay conditions. It was fun being on the water and trading some sea stories about our schooner days.

Although we never sailed together before, it seemed like we were old shipmates from way back. There's no denying that Tabor Boy creates something special in the lives of those who are lucky enough to sail her.

I have to agree with every word. I think it is hard to appreciate what sail training and sailing in general is all about unless you try it. To say that it is a strong community is almost an understatement. It really is a "strong family" environment (with a few misfits thrown in). It scares me how natural Luke looks at the helm!

Yes Peter, it was a beautiful morning sail and thank you for bringing such a great crew. We all had a great time!
