The Tall Ships are Coming! The Tall Ships are Coming!

The "Atlantic Challenge 2009" began from Vigo, Spain and ends in Belfast, Northern Ireland - a true race around the Atlantic and the first since 2000. Each port will host the fleet, with various festivals and activities taking place at every stop along the route.
From June 11 - 15, 2009, the Tall Ships were in Hamilton to help celebrate Bermuda's 400 years of permanent settlement. This was a truly unique and memorable event. Rob "Swabby" Atkinson (CE '80) passed up the Tabor Reunion to cover this event with former crew member, dive master & dock master, Sir William Cox. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it!

The Tall Ships departed Hamilton Harbor on Monday, June 15th bound for Charleston (6/25) and then on to Boston (to arrive there on July 8th).
Come out and enjoy this great event! More information can be found about the event at http://www.tallshipsraces.org.

Very cool! I was part of the organizing committee for this event when I worked at ASTA.

Glad to see all of your great pictures. Reminds me of my experiences in 1976 when I sailed aboard Tabor Boy from Bermuda to Newport for the first US Tall Ships Race which celebrated our nation's Bicentennial.

Thanks for posting these pictures and sharing your experience with the Tabor Boy Project Crew!
